Behaviour
Growling Terrier

Most owners want calm, well behaved dogs that fit happily into family life but the reality is many dogs have behaviour issues causing problems for their owners at home and out in the environment. The causes for the problems can be numerous and complex.

Fortunately, help is at hand, and, in most cases the vast majority of behaviour problems can be resolved, or at least improved to an acceptable and manageable level. The types of problems that are considered behavioural include aggression towards other dogs/animals/people, fears and phobias, separation related problems, territorial problems, excessive attention seeking, obsessive behaviours and inappropriate toileting.

I am available to assist you in how best to understand, rectify and manage a problem you might have with your dog. Each case is treated individually, evaluating the dog, the problem and your lifestyle.

A consultation usually lasts between 2-3 hours, during which time a full assessment of your dog and your interactions will be made together with in-depth history taking. From this information a behaviour modification program can be implemented using a non-aggressive and calm approach. This might take into account diet, training, owner intervention but most importantly an understanding of why the behaviour has occurred and how to address it in the future. I will show you practical exercises so you can take control of the situation yourself.

Many problems will need more than one session and a second session is included in the initial fee.
